Another vertigo diagnostic test with high technology, applied at our center, is the VEMP test. It pinpoints the exact reason of problem by conducting an advanced analysis and provides treatment phase to be progressed successfully.
What is VEMP? It is an abbreviation of Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials. VEMP test gives information about the functions of vestibular system. The biggest advantage compared to other tests is that otolith organs, vestibular nerve and brainstem are specific in the vestibular system. This test method is used to assess the integrity of the vestibular system.
If reflex arc response is measured from the neck muscles, it is called as c VEMP (cervical VEMP); if measured from extraocular muscles, it is called as ovEMP (ocular VEMP). cVEMP measures the integrity of vestibulo-colic reflex pathway, and oVEMP measures the integrity of vestibulo-ocular reflex pathway.
cVEMP - Cervical VEMP test is the only test in which the saccular and upper balance (inferiorvestibular) nerve in the inner ear area, and lower brainstem function are examined. Comparison of the vestibular functions in right and left ear is performed. CVEMP is used to diagnose superior and inferiorvestibular nerve disorders.
oVEMP - (Ocular VEMP) examines superior vestibular nerve functions.
What To Get By Wemp Test
VEMP test can be used as a supplementary test for injury of balance crystals in inner ear, meniere's disease, vestibulerrheuronitis, vestibular meningitis, Ramsay-Hunt syndrome, bilateral imbalance (related to gentamicin use), acoustic neuroma, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), semicircular channel dehiscence, brain-related balance disorders, acoustic trauma, brainstem disorders and central pathologies affecting brainstem.
Both ocular vemp and cervical vemp are held by our clinic.
